HELP! Crashes, Preview takes hours!

Post by PEEJAE » 08 Dec 2010, 01:34

I'm working on a MAC AE CS4. i'm working in a 1920x1080 29.97 comp.

i'm making smoke, it looks good, but when the preview does work with out crashing,
it takes over 30minutes for 151 frames.

anyone know of any way to speed this process up?!

thanks

Are you using the GPU or CPU solvers when it crashes?

At high resolutions you should only simulate the region that will contain smoke to speed it up. That is, create a smaller composition that you bring into the full frame and only simulate the small comp.

Thanks Jasca, i reduced the turbulence layers size to help.
But the comp is still 1920x1080, i am tracking a moving
object that travels from off screen right to the upper left 3rd.
so i'll need to keep my solid for my turbulence somewhat big. right?...

and i'm not sure what GPU or CPU solvers are.

do u know any other tips/trick to reduce my renders

thanks

Yes, in that case you'll need all the screen space that the solid moves along.
Maybe you can strip all other aspects from the project file to save memory, create only the simulation and then bring it back in as a rendered movie into the main project.
Since CS4 is 32Bit only, it cannot use all of your RAM. The upcoming CS5 version of Turbulence.2D will support to use all of your RAM.
