Instability in CS4

Post by jamesa » 25 Nov 2009, 01:04

I'm running some sims with velocity fields, color inputs, and density, and I'm getting crashes on roughly every 3rd try (using the demo in CS4).

Is this a known issue? Is there a more stable version coming out soon?

thanks,
James

Thanks James,

i will look into it. I can't tell exactly when the next update will be available, though.

Digital Domain bought the full version... it's just as unstable as the demo. I crash on 50% of the sims I run.

Please supply us with a fix ASAP.

thanks,
James

Actually, make that a 100% crash rate. I'm at a standstill. I have one simple sim that just won't start, it crashes every time I try to run it. I've tried rebooting... no good.

We have a client delivery today, and we're depending on this tool. Please help!

Hi James,

can you e-mail me a test-project so i can reproduce the crashes?

Hi Jascha,

We just finished upgrading the PC running Turbulence to XP 64. The extra RAM headroom seems to be helping. I'll update you if it keeps crashing.

thanks!

Apparently it's more stable on my lowspec laptop then my workstation, havent had a crash on my laptop so far, maybe it's hardware related ?
Both have latest drivers installed

Laptop: Duocore 2.4Ghz - 4GB ram - 2x Geforce 8800M
Workstation: dual 6-core HT 3.4Ghz - 24GB ram - 2x quadro fx3800

I'm starting up a project where this could be very usefull, so can you get back at me with some info before purchase ?
Also is it possible for the smoke to inherit the color of the fuel texture map ?

Could you send me a project file that i can use to reproduce the crash?

I'm not quite sure i understand your question correctly. You can use the color channel to get the color of a texture to the fluid. The gradient that is used to shade the fuel channel can also be used for the smoke gradient.
