Burnt Shader

I've got a bit of a pickle at the moment...

At the moment I have floating debris emitting fuel. At a certain frame, particles emit a burn shader,
igniting the fuel, creating temperature.

I've then used the temperature to drive my fire shader through arnold.

Is it now possible to apply a darker material to the objects that have been touched by the volume from the temperature channel so that they appear burnt?

I'm happy to do this through arnold or another renderer if possible :)

EDIT: Basically create a wetmap shader from the temperature (or fire) volumes.
