Explosion Scene File

Post by BobbyD » 14 Feb 2015, 16:09

Hi Guys
Here's my scene file for the explosion below:
http://youtu.be/fkA60ucs7zo
It uses Xparticles but if you haven't got this you could re-create the emitter qualities using a burst from Thinking Particles. Just make the particles emit for 1 frame with a life of about 8 seconds. Give them a random speed and life value.
Enjoy

Hey Bobby,

Awesome stuff, thanks for posting that.

Just curious how you made the fire turn to smoke so quickly in your video.
I've tried experimenting with explosions based on your scene and can't seem to get the fire to smoke transition working very well.

I've got density in my smoke and Burn in my fire shaders.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks Tom!
I think the main trick to get the fire transition right is to have more than one blast of particles which are offset in time. Set the BURN DECAY mode to LINEAR and set the value a bit higher than default. This makes the fire burn out a bit tooquickly but because you have the offset particle blasts it looks like the fire is burning at more random burn rates. We need to do this because we don't have a randomise burn rate slider in Turbulence. Jascha says this is coming in the next version which'll be brilliant.
Feel free to upload a scene file and I'll take a look when I get a second.
Good luck!
