TurbulenceFD: CPU vs GPU

Post by cglittenberg » 15 Apr 2012, 14:07

This is a little test that I did to compare the simulation speed of Jawset TurbulenceFD for Maxon Cinema 4d using a CPU versus a GPU. In this case the CPU being used was an INTEL i7 860 @ 2.80GHz 2.80 GHz. The GPU being used was 1 of the two cores of an Nvidia GeForce GTX 590. As you can see the simulation speed increase form using the GPU was between 200% and 700% !!! Creating an average speed increase of over 497%.!!!

This was simulated using only one of the two GPU cores in a GTX 590. Is there a way to use both cores?

Not at the moment. TFD supports shared memory architectures only. Multi-Core and Multi-CPU systems share the system memory. Multi-GPU cards like the GTX590 don't.

Yeah, I have SLI'd GTX 970's but can only use 4gb vram on one of them. Looking at the load on each card in real time and I am pretty sure it's not making any use of the 2nd GPU at all.

Maybe I should sell them and get an 8gb 1080ti
